If you want to start any building work on your boundary wall or any shared structure, then you need to serve your neighbours a notice about your intention and request their consent in writing. Your neighbours must give or refuse content so that you can start your work or raise a dispute ( if consent is refused)

Amicable solutions

A refusal from your neighbour doesn't necessarily mean that the matter will go to the court.  Often, various party wall issues can be resolved out of court, if a qualified professional handles the issue as a mediator.  David Andrews will offer you all possible support, if required.
